Emmys will be streamlined

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is hoping to improve the low ratings for its annual nighttime Emmy Awards telecast by transferring several categories to the Creative Arts ceremony that takes place a week earlier.

An academy committee voted 9-2 last week to recommend streamlining the TV show by reducing the number of awards handed out on air. It suggested moving the awards for supporting actor and actress in a TV movie or miniseries, and for writing and directing TV movies and variety programs.

For many years now the Emmys for best guest star in a comedy and drama series have been handed out at the Creative Arts presentation.
