Father Gets 20 Years in Daughter’s Death in Car
From Times Wire Reports
A father was sentenced in Fort Lauderdale to 20 years in prison for the death of his 9-month-old daughter, whom he left in a sweltering car at the racetrack while he bet on horses.
Antonio Balta, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter for the 2004 death of his daughter, Veronika, at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach.
Balta told police he left the girl strapped in her car seat most of the day. He said he left a car window cracked less than a half-inch.
