Oshoniyi Preserves a Tie for Wizards

Kansas City goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi made two diving saves in the second half and stopped a late shot by Freddy Adu on Saturday at Kansas City, Mo., to help the Wizards preserve a scoreless tie with D.C. United in a rematch of last season’s MLS Cup finalists.

Christian Gomez had two scoring chances for defending champion D.C. United in the first half. His shot from eight yards was headed off the goal line by defender Jimmy Conrad. Moments later, Oshoniyi made a diving save on a header by Gomez.

The Wizards, who managed only one shot in the first half, had their best scoring chance in the second half, but Josh Wolff’s shot was stopped by D.C. goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Oshoniyi, who finished with five saves, made late diving saves on shots by Gomez and Bobby Boswell. Adu, who entered as a substitute in the 77th minute, got a shot on goal in injury time, but Oshoniyi made the save.

MetroStars 3, Colorado 0 -- Amado Guevara scored three goals to lead the MetroStars at Denver. The victory ended the Rapids’ home unbeaten streak at 13 games.

Guevara, the 2004 MLS most valuable player, scored in the 23rd minute on a penalty kick after goaltender Joe Cannon was issued a yellow card for bringing down Mike Magee inside the penalty area.

Guevara made it 2-0 three minutes later, and completed his hat trick in the 73rd minute.

Chicago 2, Columbus 0 -- Justin Mapp and Chris Rolfe scored goals to lift the Fire at Columbus, Ohio. Mapp scored in the 14th minute with a low shot between defender Robin Fraser’s legs and past goalkeeper Jon Busch.

Rolfe made it 2-0 in the 69th minute, getting a misplayed ball from Fraser inside the Crew penalty area and sending a left-footed shot past Busch.

San Jose 2, Real Salt Lake 2 -- Alejandro Moreno scored in the 82nd minute to help the Earthquakes get a tie at Salt Lake City. Brian Ching also scored for the Earthquakes.

Jason Kreis scored both goals for Salt Lake, which doubled its scoring output from its first four games combined.

Chelsea won its first English Premier League title in 50 years, beating host Bolton, 2-0, behind two goals by Frank Lampard.

Lampard’s goals in the 60th and 76th minutes backed the shutout goalkeeping of Petr Cech and gave the Blues a 14-point lead over Arsenal with four games left.

Chelsea, whose only other league title was in 1955, has 88 points.

Roy Makaay scored three goals to help Bayern Munich clinch a record 18th Bundesliga championship with a 4-0 victory over FC Kaiserslautern.

Makaay’s goals came in the 35th, 48th and 68th minutes for Bayern, which won its 19th German title.

The Bavarians won in 1932, before the Bundesliga was formed for the 1963-64 season.

Defender Jean-Christophe Devaux scored on a free kick with 11 minutes left as Strasbourg beat Caen, 2-1, to win the French League Cup. Mickael Pagis tapped the ball to Devaux, who scored on a high shot.
