University Officials Ban Alcohol at Greek Events
BERKELEY
UC Berkeley officials imposed an immediate ban Monday on alcohol at all fraternity and sorority events, citing a recent upsurge in incidents involving hazing, fights and alcohol abuse.
A spokeswoman said the ban would remain in effect until a committee of students and administrators comes up with a plan for policies and enforcement.
In April, a campus fraternity chapter was placed on interim suspension after a reported hazing incident in which a pledge was shot repeatedly with a BB gun. The student was treated at a local hospital and released.
