Mystery Solved
I was particularly pleased by Patt Morrison’s May 11 column, “The Cloutless King of Los Angeles,” as she solved a long-running problem. I grew up in an orange grove in Upland, and my father used to talk about the guy who was in charge of the water distribution as, what sounded like, the “Sand Caroll.” I have always wondered what the real name was. You have solved the problem. The word is zanjero.
