From Times Staff Writers
A man killed by a freight train was identified Saturday as Ildefonso Ruiz, 24, of Placentia.
Ruiz was walking on the tracks near Melrose Street and Crowther Avenue about 5 a.m. Friday when he was hit by the train. Though the engineer blew the horn and Ruiz got off the tracks, he was hit by a protruding portion of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, according to officials.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
