Chivas Is Feeling Blue After Loss

Chivas USA broke out its blue road jerseys for the first time Wednesday night at Real Salt Lake.

Perhaps the Goats should leave them at the bottom of their laundry pile.

Playing as listless as they have all season -- they did not attempt a shot on goal -- Chivas fell to expansion counterpart Real Salt Lake, 2-0, in front of 12,581 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

This, 11 days after Chivas beat Salt Lake, 1-0, for its lone win.

“Here, we all fight together and are not satisfied with the result,” Chivas captain Ramon Ramirez said. “At times our effort on the field has not been the best.”

Chivas (1-6-1) was outshot by Salt Lake, 11-5, and Salt Lake had only two shots on goal.

As such, neither goalkeeper -- Chivas’ Brad Guzan and Salt Lake’s D.J. Countess, making his first appearance since spraining his left shoulder at Chivas on May 7 -- had a save.

Real (3-3-2) scored in the 37th minute when Andy Williams’ first goal of the year came on a one-timer from about 15 yards on a pass from Chris Brown.

Two minutes later, Salt Lake struck again when Seth Trembly ran unmarked through the Chivas defense and converted a pass at point-blank range from Jordan Cila, who was playing in place of suspended forward Jason Kreis. It was Trembly’s first goal of the season.

Perhaps Chivas’ best chance came in the 30th minute, when Hector Cuadros’ shot beat Countess but hit the left post and ricocheted out and into the goalkeeper’s waiting arms.

In eight games, Chivas has surrendered 16 goals, scoring seven.

Chivas’ jerseys were not the only things blue after the defeat; defender Alfonso Loera was hit with two yellow cards in injury time, one for delaying a restart and the other for kicking the ball into the stands, and, thus, will be suspended from Sunday’s match against FC Dallas at the Home Depot Center.

Carlos Ruiz scored in the 77th minute to lead FC Dallas (4-1-3) to a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids (2-5-1) at Dallas.... Forward Brian Ching, San Jose’s leading scorer, will sit out four to six weeks because of a strained hamstring. The team also announced that midfielder Brian Mullan (ankle) will sit out four to six weeks and defender Craig Waibel (knee) will be sidelined for the season.
