A Vote of Confidence for Airport Police

Share

Re “LAX Police Plan Fails,” May 18: The resounding defeat of Proposition A should be regarded as a vote of confidence from the residents of Los Angeles for the professional men and women of the LAX police force. As a retired chief of police who has worked both in a municipality and at an airport, I can tell you that the effort by the Los Angeles Police Department to take over the airport in the name of efficiency was reflective of a lack of understanding by the LAPD and the Hahn administration of what airport policing entails. Now we have a new mayor and a new mandate for policing at LAX. Hopefully both City Hall and Parker Center have gotten the message and will strive to facilitate the success of the airport police and end the years of turf battles that have not helped either organization.
