Twellman Helps Revolution to a Tie

Taylor Twellman scored his second goal with about a minute left in regulation to lift the New England Revolution to a 2-2 tie with the MetroStars in a Major League Soccer game Saturday at East Rutherford, N.J.

Reserve forward John Wolyniec scored his first goal this season in the 82nd minute, giving the MetroStars (2-2-3) a 2-1 lead.

But Twellman got behind the defense and scored on a header. He scored his fifth goal this season in the sixth minute to give the Revolution (6-0-2) the early lead.

D.C. United 3, Kansas City 2 -- Christian Gomez scored two goals for United at Washington in a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup.

Gomez scored his second goal in the 80th minute to give United (3-3-2) a 3-1 lead.

Scott Sealy scored in the 88th minute for the Wizards (2-2-3).

After Alecko Eskandarian drew a penalty, Jaime Moreno’s penalty kick gave United a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

The Wizards tied the score, 1-1, in the 64th minute when a pass intended for Alex Zotinca was cleared into the net by defender Bobby Boswell.

Columbus 2, Real Salt Lake 0 -- Frankie Hejduk scored two first-half goals to lead the Crew at Columbus, Ohio.

The Crew (3-5-0) ended a four-game losing streak.

Hejduk’s first goal came in the 14th minute after Chad Marshall’s header was deflected by goalkeeper D.J. Countess off the crossbar onto the goal line, where Hejduk touched it into the net.

Hejduk scored 13 minutes later, using his head to redirect a pass from Simon Elliott.

Salt Lake (3-4-2) has earned only one point in five road matches.

Chicago 2, Colorado 1 -- Thiago scored the game-winner in the 55th minute at Chicago off a cross from Andy Herron, who got the Fire (4-4-1) on the board in the 13th minute on an assist from Thiago and Nate Jaqua.

The Rapids (2-6-1) tied the score in the 49th minute on a goal by Alain Nkong.

The Fire outshot the Rapids, 11-4. Chicago had 11 corner kicks and Colorado did not have any.
