Spotting game in South Africa
Curious about some warthogs, this 5-month-old leopard cub crawled down from its treehouse while its mom was off fetching a meal. Jana Lieblich, who captured this striking portrait, lives in L.A. She celebrated her 40th birthday last September on a trip through South Africa, including four days at the Leopard Hills Private Game Reserve, near Mpumalanga, where she took this photo. Because it’s a private reserve, guides could drive the Land Rovers off-road, so Lieblich got within about 30 feet of this little leopard. She zoomed in from there with her 35mm Nikon N80.
