Replacing Stern not for Stewart

During a visit to “The Howard Stern Show” Wednesday morning, comedian Jon Stewart confirmed that Stern’s bosses at Infinity Broadcasting had approached him about taking over for the shock jock when he leaves his syndicated morning show for satellite radio.

The host of “The Daily Show” said he wasn’t interested because it didn’t make sense having his first radio job be “replacing the preeminent radio personality of your generation.”

“It would be like when Keith Moon died,” Stewart told Stern, referring to the late drummer of the Who. “ ‘Have you ever played the drums?’ ‘No.’ ‘What about sitting in?’ ”

Infinity wound up hiring several people to replace Stern, including former rock star David Lee Roth in New York and comedian Adam Carolla in Los Angeles. Carolla’s show debuts Jan. 3 on KLSX-FM (97.1).
