* McKesson Corp., benefiting from strong performance in its core business of distributing prescription drugs to pharmacies and hospitals, said profit nearly doubled to $167 million, or 53 cents a share, in its fiscal second quarter ended Sept. 30. That compared with net income of $86 million, or 29 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 8% to $21.6 billion. Shares of the San Francisco-based firm, which released its results after regular trading ended, rose as much as 7% in extended trading after closing 18 cents lower at $45.60.

* Homestore Inc., a Westlake Village-based provider of online listings of homes for sale, reported a profit of $1.9 million, or 1 cent a share, contrasted with a loss of $4.6 million, or 3 cents, in the third quarter a year earlier. Revenue rose 21% to $66.3 million.

* Sport Chalet Inc. reported a net loss of $5.2 million for its fiscal second quarter, reflecting a $7.8-million after-tax charge related to a recapitalization during the quarter by the La Canada Flintridge retailer. The company also said it would enter the Arizona market with the opening of three locations this weekend, raising its total store count to 39.
