American home heating expenses are expected to rise during the 2005-06 winter season. The U.S. Department of Energy predicts a 48% increase in natural-gas costs, 32% in heating oil, 30% in propane and 5% in electricity.

A free 10-minute home energy audit is available through the American Homeowners Foundation to help identify practical steps to reduce energy costs.
