Gonna Doo Dah? Well, duh

Share

What started out years ago as a joke in a Pasadena bar will commemorate its 29th anniversary Sunday. Pasadena’s Doo Dah Parade, a parody of the city’s more famous event that happens each year on New Year’s Day, has become world famous in its own right for its wild and wiggy style. This year’s grand marshals will be the Barbecue and Hibachi Marching Grill Team, perennial Doo Dah favorites who have appeared in 18 previous parades, cooking and shooting wieners into the crowd with custom-made “bratzookas.”

More than 100 other offbeat marching groups also will participate, including the Bodacious Babes of Burbank, the Men of Leisure Synchronized Nap Team and the Claude Rains Memorial 20-Man Invisible Marching Drill Team. Music will be provided by longtime Doo Dah favorites Snotty Scotty and the Hankies, Tequila Mockingbird and the Royal Doo Dah Orchestra, and others.

Doo Dah Parade, Old Town, along Raymond Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena. 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Free. (626) 440-7379. www.pasadenadoodahparade.com
