Pen-point attacks

“Publicly we say one thing,” the president said about the war. “Actually, we do another.” OK, those words came from newly declassified Nixon White House documents and referred to Cambodia and Laos, not Kandahar and lousy intelligence. It was pure, delicious cartoonable irony that the documents were released last week as the Bush administration came out swinging against charges of prewar dirty tricks. Matt Wuerker, redrawing history, faced the fact that the two heads of state had plenty in common. No doubt Bushies thought Rob Rogers’ powerful body-count punch was below the Beltway. And, because ‘tis the season, I’m thankful the Geneva Convention didn’t define poking your leaders in the eye with a sharp pencil as torture. Will somebody open the wine and pass the Patriot Act again?
