Jealous Profit Will Be Back in a Familiar Role

Share

Jealous Profit will be back in with maidens for the first time since the summer when he takes on five other 2-year-olds in today’s sixth at Hollywood Park.

Owned by a partnership and trained by Doug O’Neill, the son of Trippi finished second in his lone start against maidens at Calder on Aug. 20 and has been running in stakes since coming to California.

He was third behind Stevie Wonderboy and The Pharaoh in the Del Mar Futurity, and finished third again in the Norfolk at Santa Anita before finishing 10th of 14 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Oct. 29 at Belmont Park.

Trying without blinkers for the first time, Jealous Profit, who was purchased privately after his initial start, will be ridden by Patrick Valenzuela in the $42,000 contest at 1 1/16 miles.

Jealous Profit will have five opponents -- Plug Me In, Wanna Runner, Quill Out, Eastwood and Twisting Road.

Valenzuela will be riding another contender in the previous race. County makes his first start since July 20 for trainer Neil Drysdale and returns to his favorite track in the fifth, a $47,000 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles. The gelding has two wins, both local, and they were by a combined 12 lengths.

Race of the day: Stellar Jayne, who finished a distant fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, will make the final start of her career in today’s $150,000 Top Flight Handicap at Aqueduct. Jerry Bailey will ride the 4-year-old daughter of Wild Rush for Godolphin Stable and trainer Saeed bin Suroor in the Grade II at one mile. Stellar Jayne has won eight of 21 and earned $1,444,964.

One for the road: Mambo Princess won gamely in her U.S. debut at Keeneland and can come right back in her first start for trainer Mike Stidham in today’s ninth at Churchill Downs. Robby Albarado will ride the 3-year-old Kingmambo filly for Stonerside Stable LLC in the $54,900 allowance at 1 1/8 miles on the turf.

Exotically speaking: A late pick four using County and Molengao in the fifth; Jealous Profit and Twisting Road in the sixth; Alltroienne and Alpenwald in the seventh; and Highdollargirl, Southern Dish and Funny Prospect in the eighth.
