Whittier Police Shoot Driver as He Tries to Back Into Cars
Whittier police Friday shot and wounded a driver who fled a traffic stop, led them on a brief chase and then tried to back into officers’ cars, authorities said.
The pursuit, which began at 8:30 p.m., ended minutes later when the man’s vehicle became trapped against a trash container and squad cars at Mar Vista Street and Bacon Road, said Officer Alan dela Pena.
When the driver tried to back into the police cars, the officers, fearing for their safety, opened fire, dela Pena said.
The suspect’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, dela Pena said.
