Other Deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and the Indian Ocean nation of Seychelles:

Ivan V. Alarcon, 23, of Jerome, Idaho; staff sergeant, Army. Alarcon was killed Nov. 17 when his Humvee rolled over during combat in Tall Afar, Iraq, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to the 473rd Quartermaster Company at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.

Christopher M. Alcozer, 21, of DeKalb, Ill.; private, Army. Alcozer was killed Nov. 19 when his unit was attacked with grenades and small-arms fire in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

Jonathan F. Blair, 21, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; corporal, Army. Blair was among four soldiers killed Nov. 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee during combat in Bayji, Iraq, south of Mosul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

John W. Dearing, 21, of Hazel Park, Mich.; private first class, Army National Guard. Dearing was killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during combat in Habbaniya, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment in Saginaw, Mich.

Marc A. Delgado, 21, of Lithia, Fla.; private first class, Army. Delgado was one of two soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Baghdad, causing it to flip into a canal. He was assigned to the 170th Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Denis J. Gallardo, 22, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sergeant, Army. Gallardo died of a noncombat-related illness Tuesday in Tall Afar, Iraq, near the Syrian border. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Dominic J. Hinton, 24, of Jacksonville, Texas; specialist, Army. Hinton was among four soldiers killed Nov. 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee during combat in Bayji, Iraq, south of Mosul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Edward Karolasz, 25, of Kearny, N.J.; staff sergeant, Army. Karolasz was among four soldiers killed Nov. 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee during combat in Bayji, Iraq, south of Mosul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Allen J. Knop, 22, of Willowick, Ohio; specialist, Army. Knop died of noncombat-related injuries Wednesday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Luis R. Reyes, 26, of Aurora, Colo.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Reyes was killed Nov. 18 when the bus in which he was riding rolled over near Arifjan, Kuwait, while en route to Ali Al Salem, Kuwait. Nineteen other soldiers were injured in the crash, which occurred as the troops were being taken to flights to Iraq. Reyes, who was serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, was assigned to the 947th Engineer Company, Army National Guard in Durango, Colo.

Steven C. Reynolds, 32, of Jordan, N.Y.; staff sergeant, Army. Reynolds was one of two soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Baghdad, causing it to flip into a canal. He was assigned to the 170th Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Dominic J. Sacco, 32, of Albany, N.Y.; sergeant, Army. Sacco was killed Nov. 20 when his Abrams tank was attacked with small-arms fire in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Matthew P. Steyart, 21, of Mount Shasta, Calif.; specialist, Army. Steyart was killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee while he was on patrol in the Shah Wali Kot district of southern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment in Vicenza, Italy.

Miguel Terrazas, 20, of El Paso; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Terrazas was killed Nov. 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated during combat near Haditha, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Tyler J. Troyer, 21, of Tangent, Ore.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Troyer was killed Nov. 19 by small-arms fire during combat near Karmah, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Emory J. Turpin, 23, of Dahlonega, Ga.; petty officer third class, Navy. Turpin drowned Nov. 20 in a snorkeling accident in the Indian Ocean nation of Seychelles, off the southeastern coast of Africa. He was off duty with friends when a riptide pulled him out to sea. As part of Operation Enduring Freedom, he was assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74, currently deployed to the Seychelles.

Javier A. Villanueva, 25, of Temple, Texas; specialist, Army. Villanueva died Thursday in Al Asad, Iraq, of injuries suffered Wednesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol in Hit, Iraq, on the Euphrates River. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Irwin, Calif.

Anthony R.C. Yost, 39, of Flint, Mich.; master sergeant, Army. Yost was killed Nov. 19 when a car bomb exploded near him in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Dennis W. Zilinski, 23, of Freehold, N.J.; first lieutenant, Army. Zilinski was among four soldiers killed Nov. 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee during combat in Bayji, Iraq, south of Mosul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
