A military court convicted six air force personnel in an assassination attempt against Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, sentencing four to death and two to life in prison, an air force spokesman said today.

The six men were accused in connection with a Dec. 14, 2003, attempt to blow up Musharraf’s motorcade near Islamabad, the capital.

Spokesman Sarfraz Ahmad declined to identify the men beyond saying they were low-ranking personnel.

Would-be assassins have tried at least three times to kill Musharraf, a key ally in the U.S.-declared war on terrorism.

The decision came weeks after a military court sentenced to death five men for a Dec. 25, 2003, attempt to kill Musharraf, who seized power in a 1999 coup.
