Profit up at Yum Brands as Chains Perform Well

Yum Brands Inc. posted a 16% increase in fiscal third-quarter profit on the strength of resurgent growth in China coupled with solid U.S. performances by its Taco Bell and KFC restaurant brands.

Louisville, Ky.-based Yum reported net income of $214 million, or 72 cents a share, up from $185 million, or 61 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 2.8% to $2.24 billion.

Yum shares gained 56 cents to $48.83.
