The charms of Ojai

Now that its 20th anniversary is in the rearview mirror, can we call the Ojai Studio Artists Tour an institution? The self-guided tour is circled on many calendars far in advance. If you like art -- and if you find visiting the artist’s place of work intriguing -- this event works for you. Maybe you like art just fine, but Ojai’s charm and an escape to all that unbridled countryside is what really does it for you. Two days of all that and more will be going on in support of art scholarships, art classes and many other outreach programs. More than 40 artists will be offering the public an up-close survey of their abodes, gardens and studios. Among the assemblage for the 21st year: Otto Heino and his famed glazes and ceramics; painter Chris Brennan’s enigmatic characters; Teal Rowe’s handblown glass; Ted Gall’s mythical metal sculptures. Too many names to detail here. Suffice it to know that there is a broad range of styles, personalities and mediums. Examples of each artist’s work will be at the evening reception.
