Egyptian authorities ordered the release of a leading member of the officially banned Muslim Brotherhood who has been detained since May, officials in the state security prosecutor’s office said.

The prosecutor ordered freedom for Essam Erian and three other Islamists whom the officials did not name. Erian was arrested at his house during a crackdown on the Islamist movement.

Widely viewed as Egypt’s biggest opposition force, the Brotherhood is readying itself for parliamentary elections in November and December.
