Catholic Schoolteacher Fired for Volunteer Work

A drama teacher has been fired by a Catholic high school because she worked as a volunteer at a Planned Parenthood clinic.
Marie Bain, 50, was dismissed Thursday by Loretto High School after a parent obtained pictures of Bain escorting people into the clinic last spring.
Bishop William Weigand, head of the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento, said the “very public nature of Ms. Bain’s previous volunteer activity” at the clinic was “inconsistent with her position as a teacher at a Catholic high school.
Bain said she volunteered before taking the job at Loretto.
