Please tell both David Gelernter (“Adrift in a sea of phoniness,” Opinion, Oct. 14) and Jonathan Chait (“Look who’s smearing the right,” Opinion, Oct. 14) to stop writing columns cursing the darkness and start trying to light a few candles.

If I were an English teacher, I’d hand back both columns ungraded and tell them I’d refuse to accept further work unless it had some content. Both columns sounded like they were written by spiteful 8-year-olds.
