WHEN UCLA HAS THE BALL

Quarterback Drew Olson, running back Maurice Drew and tight end Marcedes Lewis are the key players with the ball, but the players most important to the Bruins’ success are linemen Mike McCloskey, Shannon Tevaga, Robert Cleary, Ed Blanton and Brian Abraham. If UCLA controls the line of scrimmage, Oregon State’s defense will have a long day. Washington State threw for 531 yards against the Beavers three weeks ago.

WHEN OREGON STATE HAS THE BALL

Behind former UCLA quarterback Matt Moore, the Beavers like to throw. But Moore has thrown for only seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Yvenson Bernard is a good running back who works well behind a physical offensive line. Wide receiver Mike Haas has great hands and is one of the better route runners in the Pac-10.

KEYS TO A UCLA VICTORY

1. Start fast. The Bruins have struggled early in their last three games and need to perform better at the start of today’s game.

2. Get the ball to Marcedes Lewis. The versatile tight end is a matchup problem for any defense and can only help the Bruins when he’s involved.

3. Frustrate Matt Moore. The former Bruin quarterback will be looking to have a big game against UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell.
