Nor’easter Knocks Out Power, Grounds Flights
A nor’easter that drew energy from the remnants of Hurricane Wilma battered New England and the mid-Atlantic states with high waves and strong winds, brought snow to inland areas and knocked out power to about 200,000 homes and businesses.
On Massachusetts’ Cape Cod, one harbor master recorded sustained winds of 56 mph and gusts of 70 mph. Many commercial fishermen stayed in port. Dozens of flights were canceled at Boston’s Logan Airport.
In New Jersey, waves as high as 20 feet washed away stretches of beach at Bay Head.
