The withdrawal of Miers’ nomination

Re Harriet Miers withdrawing her nomination: The conservative right owns the president. When they say jump, he jumps. So it’s no surprise that he dumped Miers when they put on the pressure. She didn’t even get to be judged by the Senate.

No sooner had the ink dried on your report that Miers is now pro-choice than she lost her chance of becoming a Supreme Court justice. This affair reveals that Republicans want an activist high court to reverse the Roe vs. Wade decision. So be it. Maybe the next nominee will at least have judicial qualifications.

If the White House feels it now needs to find a conservative with a record, it shouldn’t be long before Karl Rove or Lewis “Scooter” Libby qualifies.

For the life of me I can’t understand why the far right was opposed to Miers. If she had been confirmed, she clearly would have been instructed by the First Genius simply to vote the same way as Bush’s favorite justices, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas -- and she certainly would have. What more can those evangelicals want?
