Jay-Z and Nas shake hands

The four-year feud between rappers Nas and Jay-Z has been one of hip-hop’s highest-profile, longest-running and most venomous disputes. So when Jay-Z promised to “air some rappers out on stage” in the days before a much-hyped rap concert for New York radio station Power 105.1, many fans expected him to escalate his war of words with Nas.

Instead, at the culmination of the concert Thursday night at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. -- which also featured performances by Kanye West and Sean “Diddy” Combs -- Jay-Z brought his rival onto the stage, where the two shook hands and performed a duet of Jay-Z’s song “Dead Presidents,” a recording that included a sample of Nas’ voice.

“This is for hip-hop,” Jay-Z said. “We love y’all!”
