Six finalists were named in London on Thursday for Britain’s prestigious -- and financially rewarding -- Man Booker Prize, but U.S. readers will have to wait to read most of the titles.

The finalists include “Never Let Me Go,” about three young friends being raised to supply body parts to others, by Kazuo Ishiguro, who previously won for “The Remains of the Day.”

The short list includes three other previous finalists. Julian Barnes, nominated for “Arthur and George,” made the cut twice before but never won. Barnes’ book, a fictionalized retelling of a criminal case involving the real Arthur Conan Doyle, won’t be available here until January.

Ali Smith’s “The Accidental,” about the repercussions of a chance encounter, is also due in January. She had been short-listed in 2001. John Banville, another former finalist, made the list with “The Sea,” about a man’s return to his past, due here in March.

The other finalists are “A Long Long Way” by Sebastian Barry, about an Irish soldier in World War I, and “On Beauty” by Zadie Smith, a complicated portrait of a family, due in stores here next week.

The winner, to be announced Oct. 10, receives about $92,000.
