Mayor’s Aide Voices Support for New Hotel
On the eve of a City Council vote, an aide to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Thursday endorsed providing $266 million in subsidies and loans to the developers of a 55-story hotel next to the Convention Center.
Deputy Mayor Robert Ovrom told a gathering of Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce members that the city’s involvement was justified.
“I’ve been doing redevelopment 30-plus years, and it takes this kind of public commitment to make a convention center happen,” Ovrom said, according to a chamber news release. The remarks reflect the mayor’s support for the proposal, a spokesman said.
