Meanwhile, Back at the Dance ...

Robyn Norwood’s piece on the George Mason-Connecticut game ends with a touching scene of UConn player Rashad Anderson dealing with the painful loss, concluding his remarks with “Life goes on.”

Then Norwood brings Anderson back to reality, along with the rest of us who find Anderson’s comment poignant and true: “Yes, but only for four teams.”

Oh that’s right, I forgot. Losing is death. It renders life meaningless. Only the winners earn glory, and thus immortality. It’s a wonder that the corpse Anderson had become at the moment of losing could still come up with a quote for Norwood to use.

Perhaps Norwood has spent too much time covering gladiator contests.

What, no ACC or Big East team in the Final Four? I guess perhaps these conferences are not so high and mighty after all. What a refreshing change to anticipate watching games between teams who have not been there recently. Maybe the Pac-10 isn’t such a “weak” conference after all. Dynasties can be very boring.

Does Dick Vitale’s paycheck come directly from Duke or is it the Atlantic Coast Conference? And can we get 50,000 UCLA Bruin fans to send $20 each to Digger Phelps to get him to say one nice thing about UCLA basketball? He built an entire career on beating Bill Walton one time. You’d think he’d be at least mildly appreciative.
