See, It’s Really Not All That Difficult

In February, Morning Briefing reported that two brothers each got a hole in one on the same 147-yard, par-three hole at a country club in Singapore.

What happened at the recent Frank Lima Memorial Golf Classic on the No. 2 course at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena might be more impressive. Andy Chong and Robert Lusetich, playing two groups apart, both holed out with their drivers on the 280-yard, par-four 14th hole.

The two were playing in a skins game, but since both holed out on the same hole, a hole in one wasn’t good enough to win a skin.

Now that’s tough luck.

Trivia time: How many schools participated in the first NCAA men’s basketball tournament and who won it?

Spurring on her boyfriend: Eva Longoria, who plays Gabrielle Solis on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” was at the Lakers’ game Thursday night to cheer on her boyfriend, Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs.

While waiting for Parker after the game, Longoria, 31, who was raised on a ranch in Corpus Christi, Texas, said she met her 23-year-old boyfriend when she and her father visited the Spurs’ locker room a year ago.

She recently told Allure magazine, “Since I grew up in Texas, I’m like the people he’s gotten used to around San Antonio instead of being a Hollywood actress who’s selfish and arrogant and full of herself.”

Passion counts: Marcia Cross, who is Bree Van De Kamp on “Desperate Housewives,” attended Thursday night’s game with Longoria. Cross, who said she played basketball at Marlborough High in Massachusetts, was asked whether she was any good. “No, but I made up for it with passion and enthusiasm,” she said.

Magic and a magic moment: The William Morris Agency has acquired the movie rights to the story of Jason McElwain, who has autism and is the manager of a high school team in Rochester, N.Y., but got into a game and scored 20 points in four minutes.

Lon Rosen, the agency’s vice president in charge of sports, said Magic Johnson, whom Rosen used to represent, has asked to be a producer.

Looking back: On this day in 1990, Jerry Tarkanian’s Runnin’ Rebels from Nevada Las Vegas defeated Duke, 103-73, at Denver to win their first NCAA championship and extend the Blue Devils’ streak to eight Final Four appearances without a title. The Runnin’ Rebels became the first team to score more than 100 points in a championship game.

Trivia answer: Eight, with Oregon winning the title by defeating Ohio State, 46-33, in the championship game on March 27, 1939.

And finally: NBA TV on Monday will air a 22-hour marathon of the old TV show “The White Shadow.” Ken Howard, the show’s star, said the name came from what happened during his playing days at Manhasset High on Long Island, N.Y.

“A sportswriter called me a ‘shadow’ player because of the way I played defense,” Howard said, “and a black teammate said to me, ‘You’re the whitest shadow I’ve ever seen.’ ”
