Moving Company Fined; State Seeks Owners

Share

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge awarded $1.9 million in civil penalties and restitution to customers of Galore Moving & Storage. But the Canoga Park firm is out of business and its owners cannot be found, said Tom Dresslar of the state attorney general’s office.

Galore was operated by father and son Jerry and Ely Kavon. In 62 incidents, the company was accused of holding valuables until customers paid more than the anticipated storage costs.

Dresslar said that in 20 cases victims’ properties had been recovered. He said the attorney general would go to Bankruptcy Court to force Galore to pay restitution to its customers.
