More Than 80 Officers to Be Fired Over Katrina

More than 80 police officers have been fired and as many as 60 suspended for failing to show up or abandoning their posts after Hurricane Katrina, the police chief said in New Orleans.

Police Supt. Warren J. Riley announced the updated tally as he promised to thoroughly investigate and act on any charges of misconduct involving his officers. “We take our integrity very, very seriously,” Riley said.
