Touch of Dublin in downtown

Downtown’s gearing up for Seven Grand, the latest opus from Cedd Moses and Ricki Kline. Think Irish-American whiskey bar with real Dublin flavor. The tour of Ireland the duo took last year manifested itself in a place that Larry Mullen could call home, as could Irish punkers Flogging Molly. Seven Grand, which will be a live music venue offering American and Irish music, makes its debut in October at 7th and Grand. And we hear owner Moses hired artist Shepard Fairy to create dioramas, which will be found throughout the venue.... And taking a cue from the SoHo House in NYC, Moses is also working on a private downtown members-only nightclub at Olympic and Flower with the working name Petroleum. What a gas.

Option for the thinking artist

Look for a new alternative art gallery, the Thought, to open next door to the Burgundy Room on Cahuenga Boulevard on Oct. 1. The venue is scheduled to get christened with the works of punk rock photographer Al Banks and the sonic boom of DJ Loomis.... Speaking of Loomis, his weekend nights at the Burgundy Room were getting so hot he switched it up to Wednesdays so now there’s a bit of breathing room between all that Thin Lizzy and Ramones.... Mr. T’s Bowl in Highland Park is hosting the Tracy Thielen Happy Hour on Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. The event pays tribute to musician Thielen, who died of a drug overdose in June. Mr. T’s was his home away from home, and friends and family are gathering to view videos and a slide-show celebrating his life.... Word on the street is that Hellcat Night at the Echo on Tuesdays is giving some good bang for the buck. Lots of young Hellcat bands (the label of Rancid’s Tim Armstrong), along with the occasional rock star sightings.... In more Echo news, put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up at Dragstrip 66’s “Tiki Trannie” tropical freak-out at the Echo Park club on Saturday. Puka shells optional.... Big to-do at Liquid Kitty, the West L.A. bar on Pico Boulevard. The Kitty is celebrating its fifth annual Punk Rock BBQ on Sunday with the first performance by psychedelic-surf combo Lawndale in nearly 20 years. Also on deck is old-schoolers Saccharine Trust.

Tara, Tara everywhere

Tara Reid didn’t miss a bit last week. The actress raised money for the Boys and Girls Club of America at the Full Tilt Celebrity Poker tournament in Las Vegas, then on Thursday she showed up with Venus Williams to partake in some post-X Games hoopla at Avalon. We hear she kept her shirt on.... Hard to be believe it’s been 20 years since Cha Cha Cha opened its doors in Silver Lake with some yummy island flavor. On Aug. 17, the venue celebrates two decades of good times with Carmen Miranda look-alikes sporting hors d’oeuvres in giant turbans.... And Robin Leach is hosting a slumber party at the Playboy Mansion on Saturday. Head for the hills.
