Little Tokyo will take two

Little Tokyo will host two festivals this weekend. The Nisei Week Japanese Festival, which dates back to 1934, is one of L.A.’s oldest ethnic fairs. It opens Saturday and continues through Aug. 20. The event features a children’s festival (Saturday), a queen coronation (Saturday night), a parade (Sunday), a car show (both days) and an arts festival (Aug. 19-20), among other attractions.

The theme of this year’s Tofu Festival is “It’s Hip to Be Square.” In addition to its cooking stage with celebrity chefs, and tofu and soy dishes prepared by area restaurants, the festival offers crafts, a marathon screening of the Japanese anime series “Initial D” in English and shows by myriad artists, including Blackalicious on Saturday.
