Sister stations win 8 local Emmy Awards

The combined muscle of sister stations KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KCAL-TV Channel 9 won eight Emmys on Saturday night at the 58th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.

Individually, KCAL9 took home five and CBS2 won three. Other top winners included KTTV-TV Channel 11, with five statuettes, and Fox Sports News West, KTLA-TV Channel 5 and KNBC-TV Channel 4, with four each.

The awards were hosted by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. An edited version of the show will air Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. on KTLA. A complete roster of winners is available on the academy’s website, www.emmys.tv.

* Arts and culture/history: “David Jackson’s Adventure in Egypt,” KCAL9

* Education: “Autism: The Hidden Epidemic,” NBC4

* Sports special: “Surfing Southern California,” FOX11

* Outstanding sports reporting: Patrick O’Neal, FSN West

* Outstanding news director: Horacio Cervantes, KMEX-TV Channel 34

* Investigative reporting: “Danger in the Rearview Mirror?” CBS2/KCAL9

* Medical, cultural & social news story -- single report: “Hospital Mistakes,” NBC4
