A quiet night at Barney’s

With all the new clubs -- it’s mind-boggling, right? -- sometimes the best medicine for a good night out is a low-key joint with all the right stuff. For nearly nine decades, Barney’s Beanery in WeHo has been serving up Dom Perignon and giant chili cheese dogs to Hollywood’s low-brow elite. To wit: Quentin Tarantino wrote much of “Pulp Fiction” from a duct-taped booth at Barney’s. Regulars still include Johnny Depp and Adam Sandler, who favors Monday’s karaoke blow-out. And to keep up with the Joneses, Barney recently added half a dozen new flat screens and a low-carb menu. Dang, and that chili looks good.... Lebanese-born pop singer Emo Dagger (his real name) is set to perform at USC’s Bovard Auditorium on Sept. 9 to raise money for UNICEF and children suffering in the Mideast. Dagger was a war kid himself, leaving his native country at age 7.... Pantera Sarah and her partner Zen are still offering a super-charged Monday at Shag in Hollywood. Starting Wednesday, they’ll be working their magic at Social Hollywood each week.

Wine bar groupie

Veteran scenester David Fleming reports his new favorite kick-it spots are Bodega, a Santa Monica wine bar next door to Swingers that attracts an easy-on-the-eyes crowd, and the Crescent Hotel’s lounge. The boutique hotel in Beverly Hills has been there since 1926, but a Dodd Mitchell makeover transformed it into a hipster hang.... And speaking of the uber-designer, Mitchell hosts a luncheon today at Dolce in WeHo to celebrate his latest project, the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nev. .... Inland Empire boy David Lowery returns to the Southland from his perch in Virginia to play at the Key Club with Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven. Lowery is also hitching a ride to Pioneertown for Cracker/Camper’s annual camp-out on Sept. 8 and 9.... Freebie alert: Check out Under the Influence of Giants and the Adored at Hollywood & Highland’s central courtyard tonight at 8.

Xenii, (xenii.com) the private membership club that’s all the rage on Friday nights, has had recent late-night performances by Lenny Kravitz, Biz Markie, Kelis and Too Short.... Les Deux Cafe has a new Tuesday promo, “Temptation,” created by the folks behind Tigerheat.... And celebrities ran amok at Les Deux on Friday, including producer Scott Storch, Tyra Banks, Christina Aguilera, Shana Moakler and the Hilton Sisters....And speaking of the heiresses, big sis Paris hosts an album release party at Privilege on Friday.... Vine Street Lounge in Hollywood is hosting an industry shindig tonight, with a house band comprised of members of Blondie, the Plimsouls and the Romantics. Yum.
