Alleged Plot to Kill Premier Uncovered
Authorities in Thailand charged an army lieutenant after defusing a powerful bomb hidden in his car. He had been driving near Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s home.
The Thai leader said he had known for two weeks about an alleged plot to take his life. He would not name the masterminds publicly, but he fired the deputy chief of a key intelligence agency, a military general who police said employed the suspect, Lt. Thawatchai Klinchana, as his driver.
Thawatchai is an officer with the Internal Operations Security Command, police Lt. Gen. Montree Jamroon said.
