From Times staff and Bloomberg News

The world’s most famous doll is primping for a whole new kind of fashion show -- this time on the velvet-draped blocks of Christie’s International in London, which will hold its first solo Barbie auction Sept. 26.

The auction of a Dutch holding of about 4,000 of the dolls, which are made by El Segundo-based Mattel Inc., includes many classic bejeweled and gowned dolls in excellent condition. Some, however, have begun to show their age -- green ears, sweaty faces and rubbed lips are common catalog descriptions.
