Britney Spears speaks out on freedom -- her own

The world has seen quite a bit of Britney Spears in recent weeks but heard little from the star.

That changed when the new mom posted a message on her official website answering criticism about her flurry of recent nights out on the town and being repeatedly photographed in public in mini-skirts -- sans underwear.

Spears, who turned 25 on Saturday, asked for some room to enjoy her new freedom after the recent split with husband Kevin Federline.

“It’s been so long since I’ve been out on the town with friends,” Spears wrote on britneyspears.com. “It’s also been two years since I’ve even celebrated my birthday. Every move I make at this point has been magnified more than I expected, and I probably did take my new found freedom a little too far. Anyway, thank God for Victoria’s Secrets new underwear line!”

Spears also repeated her intention to resurrect her music career in 2007. Her last major hit was “Toxic” in 2004; she put aside her career while having two children in the last 15 months.

“I look forward to a new year, new music and a new me,” she wrote. “I’m just getting started.”
