Bob Knight recorded his 877th victory, moving two wins behind all-time leader Dean Smith on the NCAA Division I coaching list, when Texas Tech defeated Centenary, 98-64, Saturday at Lubbock, Texas.

Knight broke the tie for second place with Kentucky’s Adolph Rupp, leaving him behind only the former North Carolina coach.

Smith, who retired in 1997, won 879 games in 36 years with the Tar Heels. Knight, who is in his 41st season, got the bulk of his wins (662) at Indiana.

Greg Oden’s first collegiate start was almost perfect. The 7-foot freshman made all eight of his shots to help No. 5 Ohio State beat Cleveland State, 78-57, at Columbus, Ohio. Despite foul trouble that limited him to 23 minutes, Oden had 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots.

No. 2 Pittsburgh rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Buffalo, 70-67. Yassin Idbihi missed a three-point shot that would have tied the score with six seconds left at Amherst, N.Y.
