Handel’s backup crew to fill in

Two KFI-AM (640) hosts will fill in for the station’s popular morning man Bill Handel while he serves a one-week suspension for an expletive-filled outburst during Jamie White’s show on sister station KYSR-FM (98.7) last Friday.

Clear Channel Radio, which owns both radio stations, said Thursday that Gary Hoffman, who is already part of Handel’s morning crew, and Wayne Resnick, one of the station’s weekend hosts, will sit in for Handel next week. Both hosts will use some pre-recorded material from Handel on the 5 to 9 a.m. show.

Handel, angered over White’s off-air comments to his twin 12-year-old daughters, who were visiting the Burbank office where both stations operate, barged into KYSR’s studio to complain, using abusive and threatening language toward White.

Handel, who is on vacation in Hawaii this week, later apologized for the incident. His punishment included a fine, but Clear Channel officials won’t disclose the amount.

Farewell: “The King of Queens,” television’s longest-running live-action comedy currently in production, will end its nine-season run in May, CBS said Thursday. The final set of episodes of the working-class sitcom, which stars Kevin James and Leah Remini, will be shown Mondays at 9:30 p.m., beginning April 9.
