Where is Obama on the issues?

Re “What is it about Obama?” Dec. 24

Your long front-page story on Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) fails to mention his position on any of the issues, probably because he doesn’t have many. If the Democrats are foolish enough to nominate him for president solely on the basis of his personal charm, they will find they have chosen another Al Gore or John Kerry, a bland middle-of-the-roader who will throw away the presidency by avoiding the issues, so afraid of offending someone that he will be seen as soft and indecisive.

It is easy to like Obama. He seems to have the intelligence to know what he doesn’t know, the wisdom to consult people who do and the humility to accept advice. Perhaps most important, Obama has a track record of bringing people together and reaching consensus. What a refreshing change that would be from the present administration and GOP leadership.
