Brothers Chiang Hock Woo, 48, and Chiang Hock Tew, 46, each got their first holes in one on the same 147-yard hole recently at a country club in Singapore, Bloomberg news service reported.

As Hock Tew approached the green, he saw his brother’s ball lodged between the flag and the pin and assumed his ball had gone through the green.

“I peeked into the hole and to my surprise my ball was at the bottom,” said Hock Tew, a 13-handicap.

Doubling their pleasure: As is tradition when getting a hole in one at a country club, each brother had to buy a round of drinks. So 124 golfers that day each got two free drinks.

The bill, according to Bloomberg, was $306 but was picked up by the club because it has insurance for such things.

Trivia time: How far is the longest hole in one on record?

Beating huge odds: In 2000, Francis Scheid, retired chairman of Boston University’s math department, in a study for Golf Digest, calculated the odds of an average player making a hole in one at 12,000 to 1. He calculated two players in the same foursome acing the same hole at 17 million to 1.

It has been done before: On June 10, 1951, Mort Kline and John Lloyd played a match against Major Peckham and Elbert Hartwick at Los Angeles Country Club.

At the 125-yard 15th hole on the North Course, Kline hit first and put it in the hole for an ace. His partner, Lloyd, knocked his shot into the hole as well.

Peckham and Hartwick each had a birdie. The total number of shots shot by the foursome on the hole was six.

Another amazing feat: On Dec. 26, 1995, Maury DeWald, hitting last in his foursome, made a hole in one on the 171-yard ninth hole on the North Course at L.A. Country Club. Pat Haden, hitting first in the next foursome, also made a hole in one. It was the former USC and Ram quarterback’s fourth ace.

It’s presumed the bar tab for DeWald and Haden that day was more than $306.

Looking back: On this day in 1995, Connecticut was voted No. 1 in the Associated Press men’s college basketball rankings and joined the school’s women’s team at the top. It marked the first time teams from one school were ranked No. 1 in both polls.

Trivia answer: On Oct. 7, 1965, Robert Mitera made a hole in one on the 447-yard 10th hole at Miracle Hills Golf Club in Omaha.

And finally: On March 14, in connection with the Toshiba Classic senior golf tournament at Newport Beach Country Club, Fuzzy Zoeller, Gary McCord, Peter Jacobsen and Dave Stockton will take part in the second “Shot From the Top” charity event at the club.

Each will try to win $100,000 -- $50,000 for himself and $50,000 for charity -- by getting a hole in one from 118 yards on the second green. The catch is, they’ll be hitting from the top of the 16-story Newport Beach Marriott. Zoeller won last year, getting the ball within 4 feet 2 inches of the pin.
