‘Piazza’ to alight at Ahmanson?

“The Light in the Piazza,” the romantic musical that took home six Tony Awards in 2005, is confirmed to make a stop at the Orange County Performing Arts Center and is “anticipated” to come to the Ahmanson Theater in L.A. as part of the show’s 50-city national tour.

The Lincoln Center Theater production will be presented May 1-13, 2007, at OCPAC as part of the “Piazza” 2006-07 tour, which begins in August after the show closes at the center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York.

Sources in the New York offices of the show’s producer, NETworks, said Tuesday that the Ahmanson is one of a number of anticipated tour stops that have not yet been announced. Confirmed cities include Sacramento; Seattle; Denver; Miami; Portland, Ore.; and Tempe, Ariz.

Charles Dillingham, managing director of Center Theatre Group -- which includes the Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson Theatre at the downtown Music Center and the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City -- called “anticipated” an accurate way to describe the situation but added that nothing is confirmed.

“We’ve learned not to announce things until they’re signed, sealed and delivered,” he said.
