A Lasting Gift of Childhood

Share

The essay “Childhood Unplugged” (by Jessica Gelt, Jan. 22) was such a sweet story that it brought tears to my eyes. Although her parents did seem to go a bit overboard in some areas (a dryer or an air conditioner would have been nice), they took the harder road by teaching their children values.

When I see everyone around me today enticed by advertising and led to believe they need every new piece of technology on the market, it is refreshing to know there are still people who know the real values in life. As an adult, Gelt can now appreciate what her parents did, which is something no amount of material goods could ever replace.
