The Atlanta Hawks suspended rookie shooting guard Salim Stoudamire for two games without pay Thursday for conduct detrimental to the team, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Stoudamire did not play in Friday night’s game against Indiana and won’t play in tonight’s home game against Milwaukee.

Coach Mike Woodson wanted to keep the incident inside the organization, but he did hint that it was related to Stoudamire’s attitude about substitutions.

“There’s a standard of behavior in the locker room, on the floor and everywhere else that I think you have to uphold as a good teammate that just isn’t there,” Woodson told the Journal-Constitution. “I’m not going to tolerate it. Not from Salim or anyone else on this team.”

Stoudamire, whose enigmatic reputation has followed him through his career, was benched this season for essentially the same offense. Lute Olson, his coach at Arizona, benched him in his junior and senior seasons because of his attitude and demeanor.

The Orlando Magic waived guard Penny Hardaway two days after the team acquired his hefty contract from the New York Knicks.

The Magic, which dealt three-time All-Star Steve Francis for Hardaway and Trevor Ariza before Thursday’s trading deadline, re-signed Bo Outlaw to fill the roster spot.

The move to waive Hardaway was expected. Assistant general manager Otis Smith said the salary-cap room freed up by Hardaway’s $15.8-million contract would enable the Magic to be active in the free-agent market in 2007.

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed guard Stephen Graham for the rest of the season and waived forward Lee Nailon.

Graham was released Thursday when the Cavaliers acquired Nailon in a trade with Philadelphia and obtained Ronald Murray from Seattle for Mike Wilks in an exchange of guards.

Indiana center David Harrison was suspended for one game without pay by the NBA for swearing at fans Thursday night in Detroit. He did not play in the Pacers’ home game against Atlanta on Friday night.
