A bleak picture

I just want to say how wildly I was cheering as I was reading Marjorie Rosen’s article Sunday morning [“The Lady Vanishes -- Yet Again,” Feb 19]. Finally, an intelligent, straightforward piece about what’s happening with “women’s pictures” today. I am thrilled that she chose to open this particular can of worms.

Of course, the whole “In Her Shoes” thing is ridiculous, the way studio executives use it to say women aren’t going to female-driven pictures. That movie was a sad movie, not a romantic comedy. Women were craving a movie they could escape into this holiday season. If a movie is well written, acted and directed -- not one of those dumb retreads where the heroine has to slip and fall on a banana to get made -- women and men will come.
