From Times Staff Reports

A block-long stretch of Hollywood Boulevard will remain closed for at least a week to accommodate preparations for the 78th annual Academy Awards presentation scheduled for Sunday, authorities said.

The closure from Highland Avenue to Orange Drive, in front of the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars will be handed out, will allow for the installation of bleachers, pre-show stages and red carpet. In addition, authorities will conduct thorough security checks, said Sgt. Karen Leong, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police recommend that motorists use Franklin Avenue or Sunset Boulevard.
